Hi beautiful! First, you've gotta know you're one of my favorite people here on Tumblr <3 Second: I've decided to jump head first into weight lifting by myself. I've ordered a barbell, 2 dumbbells and weight plates adding up to 50kg. The order will be here tomorrow, and even though I've been researching A LOT lately, I thought "why not asking the most gorgeous fit angel?" so, here I am ^_^ any helpful advices, considering I'm starting on my own?

Hi sweetie :) OMGGGGGGG <3 I’m SO excited for you!!! You lucky girl!!!! <3 and my eyes totally lit up when I saw barbells, and weight plates…. <333
I’m also really proud that you’re doing alot of research on your own. Do you currently have a workout plan that you’re planning on embarking? If you do, you could run it through me, and we could try to optimize your workout time. If not, here are some of my tips if you’re just starting out:
1. Form over weights
Start with the empty bar for your compound moves (squats/deadlifts/overhead presses/bench presses). Keep watching videos. Keep trying to isolate your muscles. Build the muscle-mind connection. THAT is more important than constantly hitting PRs.
2. Start learning a few exercises then gradually build up your repetoire
Don’t overwhelm yourself with 46 new exercises in the first session.
Always learn your trinity compounds first. Empty bars:
- Bench Press: Chest/Arms/Shoulders
- Squats: Legs/Butt/Core
- Deadlifts: Legs/Butt/Back
Accessory work:
- Barbell shoulder press (OverHead Press - aka OHP)
- Pendlay rows - Back
- *Chin Ups - get Elite FTS bands for assisted chinups
- Dips
Dumbbells are great for:
- Chest Flyes/Chest Presses
- Rear Delt Flyes
- Lateral Raises
- Farmers Walk - Grip Strength
- Alot of unilateral work (one side at a time) - in case one side of your body’s stronger than the other.
3. Safety first
Benching on your own is pretty dangerous when it gets heavy. It should be okay if you’re just starting out. But remember that safety ALWAYS comes first. Make sure your form is right, and posture is right. You don’t want injuries to be sustained :)
4. Keep a journal to record your workouts
Unless of course you’re on Fitocracy, :) then that’d be perfect <3 Make sure you keep track of your progresses, in order for you to consistently move up the weights and see how far you’re going. Trust me, that’s VERY motivating <3
All the best sweetie! Keep me updated with your progress and I wish you the very best of luck in your journey to be an Iron Barbie <3
